Global Soul: Mali's Vieux Farka Touré
The son of late musician Ali Farka Touré is emerging as a pied piper of the African Diaspora. Vieux Farka Touré is a spirited drummer and guitarist, as proven on his self titled debut album. The Mali native is now on an international tour that brings him to the U.S. in late August 08.
Since his boyhood in Mali's capital Bamako and in his father's native of Niafunké in the Sahara desert, the younger Touré was nurtured on his father's instrumentals, which ingeniously marries Bluff City blues to bold Malian beats.
Fortunately, the gift was inherited by the younger in what feels like a funky, hot, red clay tent revival where the musicians are responsible for handing up souls to a maestro Creator.
Touré is due stateside August 19th and makes his way to the southeastern U.S. for a September 27th performance in Atlanta.
